What to do in Hampton Roads (with kids)
Welcome to Virginia! The Hampton Roads area in Virginia has the perfect amount of things to do for families. Recently the kids and I had a little weekend getaway.
Buc-ee's
First stop Buc-ee's! I lived in Oklahoma for many years, Texas was a short drive for our WILD city adventures. When I saw that Buc-ee's was on the way to Virginia I knew we had to make a pit stop. Buc-ee's is a chain of country stores and gas stations. Unique boutique finds, fun gas station treats, and outdoor equipment for the traveler on the go. It’s not your typical gas station, there are many gas pumps and multiple checkout attendants. Buc-ee's is worth a visit if you are in the area.
Eats + Treats
•bluebird gap farm | The kids and I had a great time at Bluebird Gap Farm. The animals, the playground and walking path A+ in my book. There are bathrooms, concessions and a picnic area. Tip:: Be sure to bring ice water if you happen to go on a hot summer’s day.
•Kung Fu Tea | What a TREAT. Ivry and Kam took us to this awesome spot while we were waiting for our table at Bluebird Gap Farm. Kung Fu Tea had so many menu items and the staff members were really knowledgeable. Kung Fu Tea is Fresh - Innovative - Fearless. Bubble tea (boba) and other tasty, refreshing beverages are made with fresh real Kung Fu!
Fun
• peninsula town center | Town Square and Mary’s Park are the main areas for events and gatherings at Peninsula Town Center. Mary’s Park is a nice little area! Hen enjoyed balancing on the rails and of course cartwheeling. There is an area with rocking chairs that is so delightful. Parking is plentiful and the area is kid safe. Tip:: if you decided on going to the park bring some water bottles; the water fountains are closed.
•sky zone |Is an indoor trampoline park and it was the perfect place for kids. They jumped for 90 minutes! They were extremely tired after the session and I was too. Tip::Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Crumbl Cookies is nearby if you’d like an after park treat.
• fort monroe | We went to the Air Force band concert at Fort Monroe. The community is serene and picturesque. Fort Monroe is located within the City of Hampton and is a 565-acre barrier spit of land surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay. Fort Monroe currently holds the designation of a National Historic Monument. Tip:: You can totally make Fort Monroe a beach day. There’s plenty of parking and even space for the entire family.
•busch gardens williamsburg |From their kid friendly attractions to their rides Busch Gardens has a little something for everyone in our family. There is a splash pad for any littles in the group, pack a swimsuit and a towel. Throughout the week they offer discounted tickets and if you are a military family you can get in free. Check out this page for more information here. Tip:: Parking currently cost $30 per vehicle, plan accordingly.
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
